How I Build Positive Relationships
It is impossible to have been able to perform all of the tasks I have described thus far without establishing strong positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues. These relationships have supported my efforts to become a better and more effective teacher.
Teachers must build friendly relationships with their students that demonstrate compassion, empathy, respect and humour to ensure that students feel accepted and important. Establishing a rapport with my students, asking them about their activities, welcoming their stories about their lives and extracurricular activities, allows me to know them better and to learn what interests them and is important to them. These relationships were important in enabling me to develop the necessary teaching strategies to ensure that students were safe, supported, engaged and included in classroom learning.
During all of my teaching experiences, I have demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills working alongside teachers to plan, assess and report on student progress and quickly establishing warm and respectful relationships with fellow colleagues. Throughout my teaching experiences, my fellow colleagues have constantly provided me with new ideas and encouragement.
Finally, establishing relationships and a path of communication with parents are another key element in supporting students in their learning and ensuring they are successful in school. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have been fortunate to be able to talk with the parents of my students and develop a warm rapport with them.
