Planning and Assessment
Effective planning is fundamental to achieving the goals of education. It ensures that the curriculum is taught, assessed and reported on in a structured way. I believe that effective assessment is critical in the development of the learner as it can then be used to set the direction for ongoing learning and teaching, therefore assessment must always feedback into a cycle of planning and teaching. I do not believe in planning simply to assess, but planning using a variety of assessment strategies and methods. I believe that we should as teachers utilise a hybrid of outcomes based and performance assessments as within these areas students can be assessed by a variety of methods to ensure that thorough, reliable, accurate and fair results are obtained.
Through setting goals for my students, providing feedback and using varied assessment methods, I aim to improve learning outcomes; re-examining lesson sequences in terms of how the children engage and experience them and to target the particular interests and misconceptions of my students.

Underneath the Planning and Assessment heading you will find information on some of the ways in which I plan lessons and have used assessment in my teaching practice.
