Creating a Positive Learning Environment
Schools must be both physically and mentally comfortable in their classroom in order to achieve their maximum for learning. Learning environments must be supportive, encouraging, inclusive, fun and focused on learning to ensure students are engaged and challenged in meaningful learning.
I believe it is essential for teachers and the whole school to create learning environments that promote opportunities for participation, collaboration, success and hold high expectations for student achievement from all. To encourage and maintain active participation, students must be assured that their efforts and input are valued and that mistakes are an integral and important part of learning. Teachers must develop a sense of community; fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect amongst the classroom where all students are encouraged and acknowledged and their beliefs, values and backgrounds are supported and valued.
Throughout my teaching experiences and time spent volunteering as a tutor, I have provided social support for all learners, ensuring that all learning efforts were encouraged and supported and that I was readily available and responding to students efforts in ways that were relevant, appropriate and timely.
